Community Engagement
In 2011, Argenta CDC launched its Community Engagement Department that protes the following initiatives:
- Resident Leadership - Select residents will receive training and certifications that will prepare them to become empowered to serve as leaders to improve their neighborhoods as they engage residents, public and private entities about issues that impact their neighborhoods
- Housing Opportunities - Promote housing opportunities available through Argenta CDC and assist potential homeowners in the homebuying process
- Youth Development -Work with area elementary school and alternative high school to develop resources that will assist students with academic performance
- Workforce Development and Higher Education - Provide convenient access to employment opportunities and training and higher education resources
- Civic Engagement -Ensure that residents have an opportunity tovotes, advocateing for their neighborhood and engage public officials
Neighborhood Stabilization Program
Across many cities, including North Little Rock, the federally-funded Neighborhood Stabilization Program is combating the onslaught of abandoned and foreclosed properties that are destroying communities. In 2010, Argenta CDC started investing $4 million in NSP funds to acquire, renovate or newly construct qualified properties to minimize the impact of the blight. The CDC is building quality, energy efficient homes in partnership with the City of North Little Rock, Habitat for Humanity and the North Little Rock Housing Authority will change the face of the Holt and Baring Cross Neighborhoods, adjacent communities along Pike Avenue. Collectively, over 100 homes will be created.
NeighborWorks HomeOwnership Center
Through the collaboration of residents and business leaders, government and nonprofit partners, the Argenta NeighborWorks® HomeOwnership Center offers all of the services and training that customers need to shop for, purchase, rehabilitate, insure, maintain and manage a home and build your assets through financial education, affordable housing and individual development accounts.
Assets for Arkansans IDA Program
Assets for Arkansans Individual Development Account Program (AAIDAP) is an investment strategy and comprehensive financial education program sponsored by Argenta Community Development Corporation designed to provide low-to-moderate income individuals and families in Pulaski County with the opportunity, incentive, and support necessary to save money, finance their future and change their lives as they save for a home, education or small business.
Vestal Park Urban Farming Project
Argenta Community Development Corporation, in partnership with the PeopleTree, Inc. has implemented the Vestal Urban Farming Project for 220 students at Boone Park Elementary and Argenta Academy. The program seeks to foster academic and business opportunities, health and wellness initiatives, self-esteem and environmental stewardship through hands-on participation in all aspects of the creation, implementation, management and marketing of a sustainable urban farm.
The work the founders of Argenta CDC began in 1992 sparked an amazing and historic redevelopment process throughout downtown North Little Rock that has expanded in neighborhorhoods throughout the city.
