Benefit Bank of Arkansas
The Benefit Bank of Arkansas is a joint effort between the State of Arkansas and the Arkansas Interfaith Conference (AIC) in partnership with the Department of Workforce Services and Department of Human Services to serve the working families in Arkansas by creating points of access convenient and trusted by those served. The program emphasizes the Earned Income Tax Credit, food stamps, medical benefits (including children’s health insurance) and heating/cooling assistance. About 94 percent of currently unclaimed benefits in Arkansas are from federal programs. Argenta Community Development Corporation has been a designated site for the Benefit Bank of Arkansas at no charge.
In Arkansas each year $280 million in benefits and tax refunds, the majority of which are federal, are left unclaimed. Most people seeking benefits are working or are looking for employment, and since benefit-application offices are typically open only during business hours, many eligible persons find it extremely difficult to apply. To help ease these problems,The Benefit Bank of Arkansas is is dedicated to meeting clients where they are. It is about providing as many opportunities as possible for our working families to succeed. The Benefit Bank empowers local communities to reach out and provide a hand-up to our working families. No doubt this will be a value added services to our clients and the community. For additional information or to schedule an appointment, contact Shanta Nunn-Baro at 501-374-0622 or sbaro@argentacdc.org. More information about the Benefits Bank can be found at http://www.thebenefitbank.com/TBBAR.
Individual Development Accounts - Coming in 2009
Individual Development Accounts (IDAs) are matched savings accounts that enable low-income American families to save, build assets, and enter the financial mainstream. IDAs reward the monthly savings of working-poor families who are trying to buy their first home, pay for post-secondary education, or start a small business. Each time you make a deposit in your IDA account, the IDA program contributes a "match" to your account. The match may be anywhere from one to four times the size of the deposit you make. Participation is limited- you must be able to set up an account at the selected bank and those accepted into the program must take our financial fitness series. More details will be forthcoming. Meanwhile, you are encouraged to visit Individual Development Accounts (IDAs)
The work the founders of Argenta CDC began in 1992 sparked an amazing and historic redevelopment process throughout downtown North Little Rock.
